In July 2020, I teamed up with FTL-it Systeme to design a prototype for their outdated homepage. Their existing website was far from modern, so it was time for a complete redesign.

In just over a week, I put together the basic structure and layout, along with a matching color scheme to give a sense of the website’s new direction. The following week was spent refining the color scheme and searching for images. Finding the right images, however, turned out to be trickier than expected. While I came across many great options on stock image sites, none quite fit the vibe I was going for with the design. Frustrated, I took a step back and shifted my focus to something else: color schemes.

Though I had already created a color scheme, I wasn’t completely satisfied with it—it was missing something. So, I decided to experiment with a few more options. In the end, I created five different color schemes: three dark and two light. After testing them all, I chose Dark-Grey as the final color scheme. Along the way, I even built a quick interface to toggle between different color schemes, though I later removed that feature, as it was unnecessary for the end user.

Once I was happy with the colors, I returned to the image search, but still couldn’t find any that perfectly matched the design. Eventually, I chose a few images that worked well enough and wrapped up the website. After reviewing the design with FTL-IT, we agreed that my work was complete, and they would continue their search for the perfect images to replace the placeholders.

The final result turned out great and was a big improvement over the old website. You can check out the live version on ftl-it.de.
